Q: What is aquatic therapy?

A: Aquatic therapy is a form of water physical rehabilitation that occurs in a pool where you can stand or swim. It utilizes the unique properties of water, including buoyancy, resistance, and hydrostatic pressure, to enhance therapy and make exercises easier and more effective than on land.

Q: Who can benefit from aquatic therapy?

A: Almost anyone can benefit from aquatic therapy, especially individuals recovering from injuries, those with chronic pain conditions like arthritis, healthy aging patients seeking low-impact exercise solutions, and athletes in rehabilitation.

Q: What conditions does aquatic therapy treat?

A: Aquatic therapy is beneficial for a variety of conditions including, arthritis, low back pain, joint pain, muscle weakness, joint replacements, and sports injuries.

Q: Do I need to know how to swim to participate in aquatic therapy?

A:  No, swimming skills are not necessary to participate in aquatic therapy. Sessions are conducted in pools where you can stand comfortably, and a therapist is always present for safety and assistance.

Q: Is your pool safe for my rehab?

A: Our new location features a pool between 3.5 and 4.5 feet deep which is excellent for aquatic therapy.  It also features stairs and handrails for entrance/exit, temperature-controlled water, and modern changing facilities for comfort and convenience.

Q: How do I get started with aquatic therapy at Carbon PT?

A: To begin aquatic therapy, contact us to schedule an initial evaluation where you will be assessed by one of our licensed physical therapists.  During this evaluation we will understand your problem, set reasonable goals and develop a personalized treatment plan.  Depending on your insurance benefits, we will work with you to get a referral from your primary provider, but don’t need this before scheduling your first session.
